Mrs. Doris Groves age 93 a longtime resident of Starke passed away in North Carolina Tuesday, October 10, 2023. She was born April 22, 1930, in Wicksburg, Alabama to William and Ila (Childs) Draughon. Mrs. Groves retired as a talented seamstress. She was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church, enjoyed spending time in the mountains, sewing, and quilting. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Edward C. Groves and their son in-law Chris Hord. Mrs. Groves leaves behind her children William Groves (Margie) of Lakeland, Wayne Groves (Judy), James Groves (Joy), and Rebecca Hord, all of Starke. She was lovingly called "Grandma" by eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Groves will be held in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel, Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Charles Warren officiating with the family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Dyal Cemetery.
