On Thursday, April 29th, Dorothy Culpepper Moore, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 86 while residing at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.Known by her friends as Dottie, she was born July 26, 1934 in Jacksonville, FL to Jack and Ellen Culpepper. Growing up, she lived in Inverness before moving to Palatka, FL. She went to Palatka High School and then attended the University of Florida where she studied Pharmacy following in her father's footsteps who was a pharmacist and original owner of City Drug Store. While at UF, she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and she met the love of her life, William Thomas Moore, Jr. from Jacksonville, FL whom she married in September of 1956. Bill was a pilot in the Navy and then a commercial airline pilot with Eastern which allowed her to be a stay at home mother. Family was very important to Dottie and she was active in her children's education, activities and sports. She and her husband lived in several cities before moving to Atlanta where they lived for 18 years prior to retiring in Gainesville, FL in 1988 to be close to their beloved Gators. She was a member of Eastern Airlines Pilots' Wives Association, Gator Boosters, the Tip Off Club, the University of Florida Alumni Association and part of their Grand Guard Society. She loved to travel, and she and her husband traveled the country by air or in their luxury motor coach.She is survived by her brother, Donald Culpepper of St. Augustine, FL, her sister, Susan Williams of St. Augustine, FL, her brother Bernie Culpepper of Jacksonville, FL, her three children; William T. Moore, III and wife Helen of Peachtree City, GA, Kathy Thorne and husband John of Winston Salem, NC, and Susannah Dawson and husband Charles of McDonough, GA, and six granddaughters: Susannah Ellen, Scarlett, Hannah, Charlotte, Bonnie, and Olivia.There will not be a local service due to Covid and Dorothy will be interred with her beloved husband at Arlington National Cemetery.Arrangements are under the care of:FOREST MEADOWS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY725 NW 23rd AVE, Gainesville, Fl., 32609, 352-378-2528.
