Obituary

Dorothy J. Williams, or Dot as she was known to almost everyone, went to be with her Lord on October 11, 2013. She was 88 years old at the time of her death, and lived in Hampton, Florida. At the moment of her passing, she was surrounded by those who loved her, and was received into the loving arms of a God who created and loved her, and who acknowledged her life of love and caring by saving her. Dorothy was born on April 4, 1925 in Hampton FL, to Dan and Essie Johnson. She graduated from Bradford High School. For many years, she worked in several hospitals in this area, including Shands Hospital and Bradford County Hospital. Later, and for most of her professional career, she was the Admitting Supervisor at Alachua General Hospital, or The only hospital, as she often referred to it. Dot is survived by two sisters, Mary Lee Allen and June Haddock. She was preceded in death by two other sisters, Geraldine Morgan and Frances Broome. In 1940, she married Frank Williams, and they spent 54 years together until the Lord called him home in May of 1994. This union produced six children: Nell (TJ), Mary Ann, James (Marshall), Danny (Mary Ann), Emily (Charles) and Judy (Anna). Mary Ann passed away in 1945 at the age of 1 year. The family also wants to recognize the love and care given by Robbin Pollack, who cared for Dot faithfully, including her last day on this earth. Also surviving Dot are five grandchildren: Tammy Sulsona, Lyn Williams, Jay Mann, Joel Reese and Vince Daneri. She is survived by 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dot and Frank always enjoyed gardening. He grew and harvested the crop, and she skillfully and energetically canned and froze it. Afterwards, their friends and neighbors just as skillfully and energetically ate it. She enjoyed her family, and looked forward to those occasions when all of them could be together. Other interests included her trips to their NC mountain cabin, the deer, turkeys and hummingbirds that have fascinated and entertained her for the past 6 years, and a long time love of the card game Skip Bo, especially if it was against someone she knew she could beat..which included most people. Dot was a member and former trustee of Victory Baptist Church, and was a charter member of the Factory Avenue Investment Group. She remained an active member of that club for the past 16 years. Funeral services for Dorothy Williams will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 2PM in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dan Williams, Dr. J.G. Broome and Rev. Aaron Morgan. Viewing will begin at 1PM in the same location. Burial will follow at Kingsley Lake Cemetery. Flowers are always appreciated, but friends and neighbors are also invited to make a contribution either to Shiloh Youth Ranch, 10655 Roseland Road, Sebastian, FL, 32958 or to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL, 32606. hide
