Dorsey Lee Carroll, Jr., 91, died December 14, 2016 from complications of Parkinsons disease.A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, he was born to Dorsey L. "Dixie" and Selma Wall Carroll. Dorsey was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1943. More of an athlete than a scholar, Dorsey played baseball in high school and later in semi-professional leagues in the 1940s. He married his high school sweetheart, Jean McKinney, in 1948. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before Jeans death in 2014. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. After high school, Dorsey joined his father in the family electrical contracting business, Carroll Electric Co., Inc. Dorsey and Dixie were instrumental in establishing professional guidelines for the electrical contracting industry. Dorseys son, Lee Carroll, was among the first graduates of the NEFBAs Electrical Apprenticeship program in March of 1976, which Dorsey helped establish. Dorsey was also a charter member and past president of the Duval County Jacksonville Master Electricians Association, past chairman of the Electrical Council of the Florida Home Builders Association, and chairman of the Construction Trades Qualifying Board for the City of Jacksonville. He served as the Master Electricians Examiner for the City of Jacksonville, and was on the electrical advisory board for the Duval County Commission.Participation in civic and social organizations was very important to Dorsey. He was a member of Ezra Lodge #67 F&AM, Scottish Rite Mason 32, and Morocco Temple Shrine. Dorsey was also Past Director and Impresario of Court #90, Royal Order of the Jesters. The friendships he made through these organizations were rich and long-lasting.Dorsey loved his family, friends, and life. In his early adult years, he raced powerboats in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama...sometimes he even won. He was a charter member and organizer of the Jacksonville Outboard Club and a member of the Pioneer Outboard Drivers Association. He transitioned his love of boats and became an avid offshore fisherman, always anticipating the next big catch. This became a way of sharing his legacy with family and friends, with many trips to Bimini leaving a lifetime of precious memories for us all. All hail the Yellow Bird!Dorseys other pleasures in life were Gator football, country music, a good story, a bad joke, and a well-mixed drink. He was happiest when he had his family and friends around him. He was a man as good as his word and he will be sorely missed by one and all.Dorsey was predeceased by his wife Jean McKinney Carroll; son Dorsey "Lee" Carroll, III; brother Earl E.
