Obituary

Mr. Douglas Price Hardy, age 90, of Starke passed away Monday, August 16, 2010 at North Florida Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Hardy was born on March 23, 1920 in Enigma, Georgia to the late Charles and Addie Mattie Lee Hardy and was a longtime resident of Starke. He was a retired business man and Rancher. Mr. Hardy was a member of First Christian Church of Starke, the Benevolent Lodge of Elks, a founding member of the Starke Golf & Country Club, and a member of the American Legion Post 56 of Starke. Douglas served in the United States Army, Third Armored Division, during World War II and received wounds during the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart and various other medals. He was preceded in death by the mother of his six children Doris Hinson Hardy, and his second wife Hazel B. Hardy. Douglas was also preceded in death by his son Douglas Hinson Buddy Hardy and daughter Dolores L. Hardy. Survivors are his children Dudley Price Hardy (Beverly); Dorothy Jones (Roger); Debra Harris (Mark) all of Starke; Diane Hardy of Tampa; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and his companion Yvonne Combs of Starke. The family will receive friends at the DEWITT C. JONES CHAPEL on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 6-8 PM. Memorial services will be on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the DEWITT C. JONES CHAPEL in Starke with Pastor Steve Hayes officiating. Interment will be private in Hope Cemetery. For those who desire in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, P.O. Box 2000, Live Oak, FL 32060.
