E.C. "Ed" Haddock, Jr., 95, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville and courageous WWII veteran who served his country with honor and valor, peacefully passed into the arms of his Lord Jesus Christ on August 9 surrounded by loving family. He answered his countrys call as a Chief Gunners Mate in the U.S. Navy where he served in all three Theaters while engaging in battle with the enemy on high seas. Chief Haddock retired after serving his country for 24 years whereas he sailed around the world and crossed the equator numerous times. Mr. Haddock retired from the Jacksonville Electric Authority after a distinguished 30 year career. The Jacksonville Utilities Credit Union, now known as Jax Metro Credit Union, selected Mr. Haddock to serve on their board for 40 continuous years, many of those as their Treasurer where he took great pride in serving their members. Mr. Haddock was also a member and past master of the Stafford Caldwell Lodge #342 F. & A.M. and a faithful member of Franklin Street Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his first wife of 59 years, Katherine Haddock, parents Edwin "E.C." and Martha Haddock, Sisters Eula Johnson and Catherine Dunlap. Loving survivors include his devoted wife Virginia Haddock, Daughter Sue Deege, Grandson Barry K. Lanier, step-children, Barry Dunkley (Judi) Sandra Campbell. Step-Grandchildren Amy Ralph, Scott Dunkley, and Jordan Dunkley, and was blessed with several Nieces and Nephews and Step-grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren who brought great joy to his life . Mr. Haddock was also blessed with a loving and devoted God Child, Bea Browning (Ed). Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4747 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206 with Dr. Terry R. Gore officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
