Mrs. Edna Hodges Norton, age 92 of Kingsley Lake passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Haven Hospice, E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville. Mrs. Norton was born in Heilbronn Springs to the late Freeman C. and Hettie (Parmenter) Hodges. She was a member of Kingsley Lake Baptist Church and worked at the Bradford County Hospital as a CNA. Mrs. Norton was an avid reader, collected bottles, enjoyed working in her flower garden, and at the age of 50, she learned to drive and received her drivers license. In 2000, Mrs. Norton and her husband Emmett received the Humanitarians of the Year award for their constant involvement with the community such as Toys for Tkyes. Mrs. Norton had also received the title, "Fair Lady" because of her involvement with the Bradford County Fair which led to her being instrumental with the startup and beginning of the now, Clay County Fair. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Emmett Maxie Norton, Sr.; daughter, Sylvia N. Macheda; granddaughter, Valerie Johnson; son-n-law, Frank Johnson; eight siblings, Donald Hodges, Mary Gibson, Katie Crews, Winnie Crews, Vicie Seibert, James Hodges, Carrie Smith, and Dorothy Sweat. Mrs. Norton is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn N. Johnson of Keystone Heights and Sarah E. Norton of Kingsley Lake; one son, Max Norton and his wife Barbara of Starke; two sisters, Faith Murphy and Lois Hau both of Starke and one brother, Henry Hodges of Lawtey. Also left behind is her son-n-law, Richard Macheda of Jacksonville, nine grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel, Friday, May 22, 2015 from 6-9 p.m. A celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Kingsley Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Kimbrell and Pastor Zeb Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Kingsley Lake Cemetery.
