NELSONEdward W. Nelson, 96, LCDR US Navy retired of Keystone Heights, Florida passed away at his home on August 28, 2018 surrounded by family. Edward was born in Greenwich, CN and was the son of the late Oswald Raymond and Emilie Pauline (Westdal) Nelson. Edward served in WWII and Korea wars as a Navy aviator and in the Navy reserves for 25 years. Because of his love of aviation, he was employed with the FAA for 30 years as an Air Route Traffic Controller. His hobbies included entering sweepstakes and he has won many prizes over his 60 years of entering. He was a replica car builder, professor photographer, and lifelong pursuit of knowledge. He was not only in the Mensa organization but also admitted to Intertel. He moved from New Jersey to Jacksonville in 1948 and later to Keystone Heights in 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Jane E. Nelson and daughter Nancy Jane (Darby) Bloodgood. Survivors include, Barby Nelson Mains (David) and Karen Nelson of Keystone Heights, FL, Cindy Nelson Machupa (Nick) of Alachua, FL, and son-in-law Dick Bloodgood, Keystone Heights, FL. He had nine grandchildren: Rick, Susan, Scott, Kimberly, Cindy, Christina, Meagan, Danny, Nelson and 13 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Internment will be at the Jacksonville Veterans National Cemetery. He was of Lutheran faith.
