Obituary

Edward J. Eddie Pokusa, 89, formerly of Lower Burrell, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, in Haven Hospice, Gainesville, Fla. He was born in Windber, June 23, 1922, to the late John and Katherine (Ziomek) Pokusa. Edward had lived in the area most of his life, prior to moving to Florida eight years ago to live with his daughter, Linda Rudoi. He had worked for Barking Coal Co. as a coal operator for 25 years, before retiring in 1969. He had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Edward was a member of St. Mary Church, New Kensington. He was a member of the Kinloch VFD, the VFW and American Legion in Lower Burrell. He loved playing the accordion, spending time with his family, and listening to polkas and country music. Survivors include his daughter, Linda L. (David) Rudoi, of Starke, Fla.; his son, Edward J. Pokusa, of Mt. Lebanon; three grandsons, David Rocky Rudoi, Edward R. Pokusa and Matthew Pokusa; a granddaughter, Jacqueline Pokusa; a brother, Chester Pokusa, of Butler; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Marge (Counoupas) Pokusa, in 2002; beloved daughter, Lisa Kosh, in 2002; five brothers, Joseph, John, Thomas, George and Stanley Pokusa; and three sisters, Sylvia Nase, Helen Fitzgerald and Mary Bodenstein. hide
