Obituary

Mr. Edward James Wagner, Jr. age 82 of Starke passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in St. Augustine following an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1940, to the late Edward James and Emma (Vaura) Wagner, Sr. Mr. Wagner graduated high school in 1958 and was very active in several after school sports such as football and basketball in which he was also the team captain along with running track. While working on his uncles farm during his senior year, Ed decided to enlist in the National Guard. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in France for the next three years. After his career in the Army, Ed attended Southern State College in Springfield, South Dakota earning his bachelors degree. He began his teaching career in South Dakota and later relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota teaching at the local business school. Ed then began working for Honeywell in Minneapolis before relocating again this time to Jacksonville starting a new career with Standard Sales. Prior to his retirement, he moved to Starke and was employed with the Florida State Prison as their accountant. Mr. Wagner was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed all sports especially if the Gators were involved and watching NASCAR. He was also known for having his hands in everything from running a plant nursery to having rental property; he enjoyed being outside working in the yard, on his tractors and mowers, but most of all Ed loved spending time with his family and his beloved fur babies Pup pup and Sissy. Mr. Wagner is proceeded in death by his brother, Jim Wagner, and leaves behind the true love of his life of 30 years Glenda (Bryan) Wagner of Starke; three children Stephanie Gaccetta (Pat) of Jacksonville, Jason Wagner of Arizona, and Bethany Bryan of Starke along with two stepsons Richard Wheeler (Heather) and Devin Wheeler all of Starke. Also left behind are two siblings David Wagner (Nelda) of Texas and Judy Smith (Rod) of Arizona; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law Faye Wagner of Texas. A Celebration of Life for Mr. Wagner will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Community Hospice 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
