Edward "Peewee" R. Walters

Mr. Edward Ray "Peewee" Walters age 87 of Melrose passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Hospice in Gainesville. He was born March 21, 1933, in Florahome to George and Paralee (Johns) Walters. Mr. Walters was a retired Crane Operator and had assisted in the erection of the Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon. In 1973 he and his family moved from Ft. Lauderdale to make Melrose their home. He was a lifelong member of the Goldwing Club and the Keystone Tractor Club; he enjoyed traveling, playing his guitar and had played in a band while living in Ft. Lauderdale. Mr. Walters had a big heart for all animals but most of all he loved spending time with his family when he wasnt working; those that knew him new that his work was his life. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his daughter Marcella Westerman. Left behind is his wife of 68 years JoeAnn (Gandy) Walters of Melrose and their three sons Michael Walters (Karen) of St. Augustine, George Walters of Melrose and Timothy Walters (Linda) of Louisiana. Also left behind are three siblings Virginia Dunleavy and Dredsel Walters both of Jacksonville and Reginald Walters of St. Marys, Georgia. He was lovingly called "Papa Peewee" by Amber, Justin and Samuel along with Charlotte and Lily. A memorial service for Mr. Walters will be held Saturday, June 6, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will be at Keystone Heights Cemetery.
