Mr. Edwin Franklin Johns age 85, of Starke passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital in Gainesville. Mr. Johns was born on July 8, 1938 in Theressa to the late Thornton and Oweida Lucille (Hall) Johns and was a lifelong area resident. He was a member of Sampson City Church of God and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Edwin was also an honorary member of Two Buck Hunting Club. Prior to retirement he worked for WW Gay Construction Company as a site supervisor. He also worked as a pipefitter and was a member of the Local Union 234 in Jacksonville. Mr. Johns served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Oweida Johns and his brother, Walter "Nub" Johns, along with grandchildren Brandon Griffis and Lisa Fulgham. Survivors are, his wife of 56 years, Carroll "Johnnie" (Forsyth) Johns of Starke, children, Kevin Johns, Diana Knotts (Eric), Richard Smith, and Louette Smith-Hylton (Butch), siblings, Gladys Bundy Thomas McRae (Arley), and Emily Johns McDonald (Rod). He was lovingly called papa by grandchildren, Daniel Griffis, Gerad Griffis, Shauna Hylton, Jodie Smith, Chipper Smith, Grace Johns, Garfield Johns, Grady Johns, great grandchildren, Kaylin Griffis, Josh Crane, and Dalon Blankenship. Also left are numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Sampson City Church of God on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with memorial services beginning at 11 oclock.
