Elaine T. Smith, 95, peacefully passed away on January 13, 2025 at the Haven Hospice Center inGainesville, FL. Ms. Smith was born on March 6, 1929 in Wolcott, Vermont, the daughter of Earnest and Gladys (Camley) Knapp and grew up in Stowe, Vermont.Elaine was very adventuresome, working and living mostly in the New England states of Vermont and Massachusetts. She served as a WWII era veteran, having enlisted while visiting Fresno, California. Elaine eventually decided to settle in Gainesville, FL. Having earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont and Masters degree at Boston University, she worked for many years as an educator and administrator for the Alachua County school system. Elaine enjoyed travel and toured the United States by Recreational Vehicle, spent meaningful time with family and friends, and truly enjoyed playing Bridge with her closest friends.Elaine is preceded in death by her wonderful daughters Anne and Maura Lee, 5 siblings and herbeloved companion of many years, Bernard "Bernie" Libiecki. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jackson Hagen of Tampa, FL, and Nicole Hagen of Dallas, TX, her sister, Mrs. Andre (Jean) Bourdeau of Sabastian, FL, and many nieces and nephews living throughout the United States.A Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:00AM in the Forest MeadowsChapel of the Meadows immediately followed by a graveside service at the Forest MeadowsCemetery (Central).
