Eleanor Bustelo King

Eleanor Bustelo King, 83, beloved mother, grandmother, and teacher, was called to her eternal resting place on September 18, 2026. Born on August 10, 1943, in Tampa, FL, she was the cherished daughter of Joe and Doris Bustelo. She attended Florida State University with her beloved cousin, Mary Hudak. Upon graduating, Eleanor dedicated her life to education, imparting knowledge and fostering the minds of students over a remarkable 30-year career in Duval County Public Schools, particularly at Sandalwood High School. Eleanor was a passionate and devoted educator, specializing in home economics.

Her love for teaching extended beyond the classroom; she was a nurturing presence in the lives of many, including the children of her community. Known for her generous spirit, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and lent her support to events at her church, teaching in the nursery, and assisting refugees from Myanmar.

An accomplished baker and seamstress, Eleanor became well-known for her delectable pastries and cakes, which brought joy to family and friends alike. She lovingly crafted dance costumes for her daughters' special occasions, including prom dresses and wedding gowns. Eleanor even made a dress for her daughter's Barbie doll matching a prom dress. Her creativity knew no bounds, and her legacy will be deeply felt in the lives she touched through both her culinary and sewing talents.

Eleanor was also a passionate reader, never turning down a book that came her way. She was an active member of PEO, a philanthropy sorority dedicated to promoting education for women. She was a Girl Scout Troop leader, and volunteered with the supervisor of Elections as a poll worker. She was the founding member of The Greater Englewood Neighborhood Association.

Eleanor shared her voice as a member of her church choir, and one year along with the choir, sang with the Jacksonville Symphony. She also participated in the annual Singing Christmas Tree that became a cherished tradition for her for over two decades.

Eleanor's warmth and nurturing nature earned her the affectionate title of "Cookie." She was also known as "Abuela", and devoted countless hours to caring for her grandchildren, even homeschooling one of them.

Eleanor is predeceased by her son-in-law, Chris Branson and sister-in-law, Nancy Bustelo. She is survived by her brother Richard Bustelo (Anne), son Ken King (Mary Elizabeth), daughter Rachel Newell (Bobby), daughter Kimberly Branson (Jason), and her beloved grandchildren: Mallory Reading (Chris), Christine King, Alan Prevost III, Noah Newell (Chelsie), Piper Newell, Zoe King, and Zia Branson, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In honor of her life and contributions, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 17th at 10:00 am at Aspire Church of San Marco on 1435 Atlantic Boulevard., Jacksonville, FL 32207. Eleanor's family invites all who knew and loved her to join them in celebrating her remarkable life and legacy. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to a reception at Moloney-Hewell Funeral Home on 4140 University Boulevard South, Jacksonville, FL 32216.

Eleanor will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, wisdom, and dedication to her family and community. May she rest in peace.
