Elizabeth (Betty Jean) Baughman was called on January 19, 2016 by her Heavenly Father to her eternal home. She was born October 18, 1927 to a pioneer Tampa family Ruby and Charles W. Bartlett, where both her father and grandfather were prominent Tampa physicians.After graduation from Plant High School in Tampa, she attended Florida State University where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Her education was completed at the University of North Florida with a B.A. degree in Sociology & Social Work.In 1950 she married James (Jim) Baughman and in 1959 they moved to Jacksonville with their two sons.Betty was a member of the Tampa and Jacksonville Junior League. She served as a Board Member of the Tampa League in many capacities. Community volunteering was important to her and she became President and Secretary of Duval Medical Center Auxiliary and as President helped promote bond issue for Shands University Hospital. She was a member of the State Medical Auxiliary Board serving as Editor of the State newsletter.Children were the love of her life, and in 1970 she was blessed to become the Social Worker for the Boys Home Association, where she served for 21 years. Hundreds of young men remember her as one who loved them and spent each day guiding them as one of her own. In 1992, the Sertoma Club awarded Betty their Service to Mankind award. In 1995 she became a member of the first Foster Care Citizen Review Board serving until it was disbanded in 2002 statewide.South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church was an important part of her entire life in Jacksonville. Betty served several times as a Deacon, Stephen Minister, Childrens Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of Senior Adult Ministry, Sunday School Secretary and advocate for the homebound. Her faith and love of Jesus Christ gave her steadfast strength throughout her life.Bettys family was special and she loved them deeply while trying to love all she came in contact with in her daily life. She was definitely "a people person" with a smile and conversation for all she met.Betty was predeceased by her son, William (Bart) Baughman and sisters, Charlotte Bartlett and Jacqueline Miller. Survivors are: husband, James F. Baughman, son, James Robert Baughman, a cousin, Nancy Bartlett, a niece and a nephew.Memorials may be made to South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church Congregational Fund or to the Charlotte Ann Bartlett Scholarship Fund, Agnes Scott College, 141 E. College Ave., Decatur, GA 30030.Burial will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:30P.M. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016 in South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stephen C. Kolderup officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of George H.
