Ellaymah Bowles, age 91, died peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2023, of natural causes with her children by her side. Ellaymah, who was known to everyone as Sally, was born on December 28, 1931 in Jacksonville Florida to Ralph Thomas and Alice Mayfield Thomas. She attended Landon Jr. High and Andrew Jackson High School. In 1947, Sally met the love of her life, her husband Carl Bowles. They were married on September 11, 1947 and soon began a family while living in Jacksonville Beach. In addition to being a dedicated mother and homemaker, Sally enjoyed racing cars, being outdoors, and especially deep-sea fishing. While Sally may have been small in stature, she was a fierce competitor when it came to stock car racing on a dirt track, hotrod racing on the beach and dune buggy racing. Carl, her husband, built and restored antique cars as a hobby and encouraged Sally to race the cars he built. When it came to fishing, Sally was really in her element and loved to fish offshore, in lakes, in the rivers, anywhere the fish were biting. It was also a pastime she shared with her children and helped them to love the outdoors and fishing. To her delight she would proudly pull in fish almost as big as she was! She was able to pass her love of fishing to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who all enjoy fishing today.Sally loved antiques and with her husband and her children, she spent many happy hours scouring yard sales, thrift stores and any place that she would find something special. Sally was always welcoming and kind to everyone that she met. She loved her little dogs and almost always had one by her side. Her last chihuahua, Bebe was with her for almost 20 years. She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church at the time of her passing and had been a longtime member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Her time in church brought her much joy and peace. She is predeceased by her parents, Ralph Thomas and Alice Mayfield Axtell, her beloved husband, Carl Bowles, who died in 2011, after 64 years of marriage. She is survived by her three children, Michael Bowles (Eadie), Alice Parker (Barry) and Carla Looney (Joel), 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many extended family and friends.Viewing from 5:30-7:30 Monday June 19, 2023 at George H.
