Mrs. Ellen Mary Dixon, 89 of Green Cove Springs, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Mrs. Dixon was born August 16, 1933 in Placentia, Newfoundland to parents, Paul Duke and Catherine (Power) Duke. Ellen was raised in rural Newfoundland working and living off the land where she would even shear sheep, to make her own wool for sweaters, mittens and socks. She met the love of her life, an Air Force soldier, Cecil Dixon, where he swept her off her feet and he carried her away to the United States. She was a devout member of the Catholic faith where she attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Fleming Island. In her free time, Ellen enjoyed dancing, sewing, quilting, knitting and she was an avid reader. She looked forward to Friday evenings where all her Grandchildren would gather together around her dining room table to share their weekly stories and spend quality time together. Not only did she raise 8 children of her own, but she raised many other grandchildren as well and she wouldnt have had it any other way. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Cecil Dixon, Sr. and children, Harold Dixon, Robert Dixon, and Diane Waters. Survivors are her children, Alfred Dixon of Jacksonville, Debra Krage of Green Cove Springs, Curtis Dixon of Wisconsin, Cecil Dixon, Jr. of Green Cove Springs, and Mary Prond of Green Cove Springs. She was lovingly called "Momal" by sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Ellen will be most remembered by her legacy of her profound love for her family. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Sebastian Garcia officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
