Elmer Howell Osteen Elmer Howell Osteen, 99, passed away on Tuesday November 27, 2012 in Jacksonville. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday December 1, 2012 in Calvin Presbyterian Church, 4050 Barnes Rd. with Rev. Earl Sickles and Rev. Sam Souers officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday November 30 in George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S.Elmer was a lifelong Jacksonville resident, born here on April 2, 1913 to Matthew Francis and Lillian Dixon Osteen. He was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School, class of 1931. After high school, Elmer attended Citizens Military Training Camp (CMTC) at Ft. Severen, GA. He served in WWII and the Korean Conflict and retired after 34 years of service in the Florida National Guard. Elmer had a lifelong interest in music. He sang, played the mandolin, and worked with Pasco Roberts who taught music in Waldo, Starke & Gainesville, playing over WJAX and WRUF weekly. Elmer was a charter member of Arlington Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and also a charter member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, where he served in many positions and was honored as Elder Emeritus in 2005. He was co-founder of the North Florida Theater Organ Society of Jacksonville, a past president of the Jacksonville Camera Club, and active member of AARP Chapter 1089.Elmer was preceded in death by his first wife, Helyn Pace Osteen. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Irma Joyner Osteen; his daughter & son-in-law, Kathleen & Don Winstead of Tallahassee; stepson & daughter-in-law, John & Rose Joyner of Sebring; stepdaughter, Donna Joyner of Tallahassee; 1 grandson; 4 granddaughters; 4 great grandsons; 1 great granddaughter and one great-great granddaughter.Arrangements under the direction of George H.
