Obituary

Elpa Karabinis, 93, a long-time resident of Gainesville, passed away on September 3 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born in 1920 in Larissa, Greece. After World War II she went to Paris to study French at the Sorbonne. In Paris she met her future husband, Nicholas Karabinis, an American GI. Returning to America, they settled in Gainesville in 1948. Mrs. Karabinis worked for Alumni Services and later for Shands Hosptial at UF. Preceded in death by her husband Nicholas, and two sisters in Greece, she is survived by her sons Harry (Liz) of St. Louis, Mo., and Paul (Laura) of Jacksonville, her sister Thalia Antonopoulos of Athens, Greece, three grand children and four great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be private for family only. Interment will be in Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central.
