Elva Mae Ragsdale passed away Friday morning, January 10, 2014 at the St. Vincents Clay County Hospital. She was born in Mounds, Illinois, on August 16, 1915, the daughter of the late Reverends Cletus and Essie (Cooper) Ragsdale.Elva Mae became a resident of Penney Retirement Community in April of 1992 and was active in the life of the community. She moved to Florida from Anderson, IN where prior to her retirement in 1980 she served as an Associate Professor in School of Education of Anderson College (now Anderson University). Elva Mae received her Doctor of Education Degree from Ball State University in 1967.In addition to her parents, Elva Mae was preceded in death by her sister, Cleta Wright Galaher, who passed away in January of 2008.She is survived by two sisters: Eileen Morton, of Penney Retirement Community, and Olive Marsh of Campbellsville, KY, two nieces, Shirley Morton Smith and Marlita Marsh, four nephews, Gehl Wright, Danny Morton, Philip and Lloyd Marsh, as well as several great nieces and nephews and their children.A private committal service for Elva Mae will held Thursday morning, January 16 at the Penney Farms Cemetery followed by a public memorial service to be held at 2:00 pm at the Penney Retirement Community Beyer House.
