HILL: It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Erma Jean Hill, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us on January 24, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on September 16, 1939, in Jacksonville, Florida, Erma lived a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Erma was a proud homemaker, dedicating her life to nurturing her children—Deborah Hill Melvin (Ray), Rhonda Lee Shanesy (Keith), and Kelly Marie Hill, and William Frank Hill. She was a pillar of strength and an endless source of support. Erma's legacy will live on through her children and her cherished grandchildren: James Ray Hill III, Daralyn Guthrie, Raymond Alan Melvin Jr (Margaret Ann), Joandy Laviner, Brandi Hill, Randall Alton Melvin, Kayla Marie Bass (Justin), Christine Hill, Mitchell Neil Williamson (Kira), Bella Shanesy, Micah Laviner, and Noah Dykes; 2 great-grandchildren and 35 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her immediate family, Erma is survived by her dear sister Hazel Bennett and sisters-in-law Dolly Bennett and Lois Bennett Parrett and her brother, Billy Bennett; her warm spirit and generous heart touched the lives of all who knew her.
Erma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, James Ray Hill, Mother, Pearl Bucklew, Father, James Edgar Bennett; Son, James Ray Hill Jr., Son, Dennis Craig Hill,; Sister, Elizabeth Passmore, and Della Bennett; Brothers, Carlton Bennett, Clinton "J.C." Bennett, and Chester Bennett.
Erma's family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate her life and legacy. A visitation will be held at Moloney-Hewell Funeral Home on January 30, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will take place the following day, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Moloney-Hewell Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard S., Jacksonville, Florida 32216 with Sister Tina Dunn Townsend officiating.
In honoring Erma's memory, we remember a woman who exemplified love and compassion and a champion of all children. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
