Ernie, as he was called by friends and family was born in Blackshear Ga. to the late Ernest Melvin Beverly and Doris (Smith) Beverly on June 12, 1938. He went to high school at Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, FL. In 1958 Ernie enlisted in the US Army Reserve and served through 1964.After many jobs as a youth, Ernie went on to start his career in the paper & box industry for Rex Packaging on East Port Road in Jacksonville FL. While working there he became an accomplished draftsman and steel rule cutting die maker. After a few years Ernie started his own die shop in the early 70s and named the new company, Ernies Die Shop. Ernie was also very familiar with reading blueprints so building, designing and construction projects came easy for him. Designing and building projects rounded out his spare time over the years for himself and others. In the early 80s Ernie sold the die shop to a local box company Gateway Manufacturing Inc. as the owner needed Ernies abilities to manage and run the box company as well as the newly acquired Die Shop. After a few years went by, Gateway MFG shut down and that was not a problem as Ernie and his brother Barney started a profitable commercial landscaping business. The 2 brothers also picked up a few residential projects along the way. In later years Ernie was asked to manage the rebuilding and remodeling of the St Johns Landing, an apartment complex in Green Cove Springs Florida. Based on Ernies rounded grounds maintenance, engineering, and logistics abilitys he thrived and exceeded all expectations on the project. Ernie ultimately retired from that career at 65 years young. just as the project was finishing-up and winding down. He considered the St Johns Landing project one of his greatest achievements. He wanted to start his remaining years with his wife and family. Ive never heard Ernie talk as much about all his accomplishments as much as he did the St Johns Landing project. I feel God was guiding him to and with that endeavor! Ernie loved HUNTING and fishing with his son Steven, as well as other family members and friends. He also enjoyed planting annual vegetable gardens and giving some of those vegetables to family and friends. Ernie liked doing and building projects around the house or helping someone with theirs. In the Summers he loved to have family and friends over for a cook out or a crab boil. Every year for several years, he and his wife Sue made his own special B-B-Q sauce recipe to give the family & Friends. His Granddaughter Dena & Great Granddaughter Haley called the sauce, Pa-Sauce. In his younger years. You would see Ernie and Sue (His Wife) dancing to old 50s music, rock-&-roll music as well as country music. The couple won many dance awards at night spots and hotels through the years. EVERYONE loved to watch them dance. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ernestine Beverly; and his brother, Barney Beverly.Ernie is survived by his wife, Abbie Sue Beverly of Florahome, Florida.
