Esther Ann Carraway (Davenport) passed away peacefully in her home on August 11, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 100.Esther was born on January 29, 1921, in Jacksonville, Florida to Reppard Hodges Davenport and Nancy Annie Davenport. She attended Landon High School in Jacksonville. She married Harry Cecil Carraway, September 18, 1937 and the couple had two sons, John Cecil Carraway and Stanley Lester Carraway.Esther was a homemaker and an accomplished gardener, baker and chef. She loved her family and took great interest in the life of anyone who wanted to share their time and conversation with her. She was a conscientious neighbor and a dependable friend. Esther was blessed with a sharp mind and endless wisdom and had great insight to relate to any age group. To her family she was loving, caring, dependable, trustworthy and loyal.Esther loved the Lord and was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. For years, she was an active and dedicated member of the Southside United Methodist Church where she often volunteered. Later in her life, after moving to Mandarin, Florida she became a member of Fruit Cove Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being active in her Sunday school class and the friendships she formed with the ladies.Esther is survived by her children, John Carraway (Ann) and Stanley Carraway (Edith); her grandchildren, Jill Carraway Tayse (former spouse Jeff), Julie Carraway Edwards (Bill), John Carraway, Chad Carraway (Elaine), Clint Carraway, Chelby Carraway Crosby (Ed), Collyn Carraway; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. She is preceded in death by her husband Harry and her brother Lester Davenport.Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 19, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at the George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. South, Jacksonville, Florida with Reverend Charles Ragland officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery at 4300 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida.
