Eugenia (Jeanie) Newell Byrd Mrs. Byrd of Jacksonville, Florida passed from this life on February 21, 2013. She was born in Spartanburg County, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Eugenia Smith and Fletcher B. Hames. She was first married to the late Harry Lynn Murrow, then the late William H. Newell, and the late Robert Thomas Byrd. Mrs. Byrd received her education at Ashville Teachers College and The University of South Carolina. Her teaching career of 37 years took her from South Carolina and North Carolina to Florida where she retired. Eugenia was a member of: Deermeadows Baptist Church (Jacksonville, FL); various educational affiliated organizations; and The Ladies Auxiliary of Daniel Memorial for Kids. Survivors include a sister Edith H. Robinette of Hendersonville, N.C. A son Terry Lynn Newell (wife,Caroline) of Amelia Island, FL. A grandson William A. Newell (wife Kerry) of Leawood, Kansas. Granddaughter Margaret Murrow Newell of Boston, Ma. There are three great grandchildren: Catherine Ridley Newell, William Walker Newell, and Caroline Rost Newell of Leawood. Three step children also survive: Lynn Byrd Harris; Victor H. Byrd; and Richard T. Byrd, all of Jacksonville, FI. Many nieces and nephews survive as well. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Deermeadows Baptist Church on Saturday March 2, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. and be conducted by Pastor Bill Carmichael. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, before the service, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Spartanburg, S.C.In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Deermeadows Baptist Church, 9780 Baymeadows Rd.
