Obituary

Eva June Strickland Voyles, 95, passed away peacefully and went home to the Lord on January 9, 2025, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL.June was born in Citra, FL on June 17, 1929 to Dr. Edgar E. Strickland and Eva Duke Strickland where she grew up with six siblings.In 1956, on New Years Eve, she met her future husband, Al, on a blind date. The following year, they married and settled in Gainesville to raise their greatest gift - their three beloved children. Together they provided a home full of unconditional love.June worked for the State of Florida for over 35 years and retired from the Alachua County Extension Office. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and in her retirement, she served as a long-time AGH auxiliary member and volunteered as a Pink Lady.As a devout Christian, June worshipped at Wesley United Methodist Church for over 65 years. She participated in Bible study, maintained the pews and sanctuary, and volunteered with numerous community events with the Church throughout the years. Her Church family meant the world to her.June was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Alton (Al) R. Voyles, Sr, as well as her parents and siblings, Thomas W. Strickland, Donald F. Strickland, William A. Strickland, Harry W. Strickland, Lex H. Strickland, and Marye Strickland. June is survived by her children Buddy Voyles, Edgar Voyles, and Debbie (Jimmy) Bryant, as well as grandchildren Mindy (Nate) Cross, Courtney (Alex) Moore, and great-grandchildren Will, Sophia, and Melody June, all of Gainesville, FL.The service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Thursday, January 16th at 10am. Please join the family, wearing bright colors to match Junes personality, one hour prior to the service for Junes favorite, coffee and muffins. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows Cemetery - Central.
