Evelyn Lorraine Barnett1923-2018On Monday, October 8, 2018, Evelyn Lorraine (Ragan) Barnett, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed peacefully away in her sleep at the age of 95. Some friends knew her as Evelyn but most others called her Lorraine.Lorraine was born August 24, 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee to Willoughby and Lenora (Fields) Ragan. Lorraine attended Nashville Central High School and Peabody College. She met her husband to be, Robert (Bob) Henry Barnett while traveling on a bus with her good friend to Florida for a vacation. Bob never forgot the lovely lady on the bus and after a long distance courtship; they were married in November 1943.Bob and Lorraine took up residency in St. Petersburg, Florida from 1943 until 1946. The couple moved to Jacksonville, Florida and raised two children in the Arlington area, where they spent the rest of their lives.Lorraine loved gardening and flower arranging and was a member of the Jacksonville Garden Club. Lorraine and Bob were active members of the First United Methodist Church for a number of years since 1943. Always good with math, in 1970 Lorraine accepted a position there as Financial Secretary, which she held for ten years. Lorraine and Bob were also active in St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Arlington. Lorraine later worked for 12 years as a Teachers Assistant at St. Andrews Elementary School in Arlington. Lorraine loved children, both her own and others, and she especially enjoyed teaching little ones.Her beloved husband, Robert Henry Barnett died in January of 2010, after 66 years of marriage. Evelyn Lorraine continued to live in the Arlington area until her death. She is survived by her daughter, (Lynda) Barnett Norris, of Charleston, South Carolina, her son, Robert H. Barnett Jr. of Hollywood, Florida, her grandson, Jordan Norris and her great granddaughter, Delaney Norris of Arlington, Virginia.Donations can be given in her name to St. Judes Research Hospital of Memphis Tennessee..
