Obituary

Evelyn P. Evy Evenhuis, 89 went home peacefully to be with her Savior on Friday afternoon, Aug. 28, 2009. She was born in Chicago, IL on May 15, 1920, the daughter of Paul and Cecelia (Dvorak) Tucek who emigrated from Czechoslovakia in the early 1900s. Evy grew up in the western suburbs in her early years, and worked in the main office of Montgomery Ward after graduation from Farragot High School in Western Chicago. She and many of the extended family moved to Manitoba, Canada in the late 1940s, and then lived in Florida where she was the secretary for the Central Pres. (Bible) Church for many years. It was here that she met and married her dear husband Ed Evenhuis in 1958, who whisked her off to live in his hometown of Kalamazoo. Evy was employed at Allen Electric as the presidents secretary for several years, and then happily and faithfully worked as the church secretary at the Bethel Baptist Church in the 1960s and 1970s. Evy was always busy and really enjoyed serving her Lord and Savior playing the piano at church services and for special music. She also taught Sunday School, and loved to work together with her dear Ed, as Bus Ministry Grandparents at Bethel, riding in the many church buses along the long routes around the city picking up kids (and parents) for Sunday School and church who otherwise did not have a way to come. Ed and Evy moved back to Florida in 2004, and lived in the wonderful Park of the Palms, Christian assisted living center where Ed went to be with the Lord in Nov, 2007. She came back to Kalamazoo where she resided at Tendercare Portage. Evy was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is survived by her dear sister, Lillian Adam of Cooper; two children and their spouses, David and Joyce Boubelik of Kalamazoo, Beverly and Art Labelle of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Bo (Robin) Boubelik of Vacaville, CA, Mark (Kristi) Boubelik of Manteca, CA, Michelle (Kevin) Burke of Sacramento, CA, Ben (Carla) Rudolph of St. Pete, FL, Nate (Donna) Rudolph of Atlanta, GA, Burt (Ashley) Rudolph of Kinston, NC, Janet Reha of Dallas, TX, Joanie (Ed) Keown of Greenwood, IN, Phil Greeley of Manteca, CA, Michelle (Jim) Fisch, Mark (Linda) Labelle and Mike (Eileen) Labelle all of California; 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces, Jack (Elaine) Adam of Fremont, Burt (Jean) Adam, Mary Ann (Charlie) Massey and Patty (Doug) Robinson all of Kalamazoo, Ruthie (Harold) Henderson of Alachua, FL.
