Father John Joseph Meehan, 76, died Monday, June 2, 2014 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born July 9, 1937 in Dublin, Ireland. He attended seminary in Ireland and continued graduate theology studies at the University of Freibourg, in Switzerland. A Roman Catholic Priest, he served many years as pastor of St. John's Catholic Church, in Atlantic Beach, Florida. After retiring Father Meehan continued to be very active assisting at many different Parishes in the Jacksonville area. Survivors include, his sister, Elizabeth Nugent and two brothers, Patrick and Matthew McDonough, all of Dublin, Ireland; an aunt, May Meehan; and uncle, Thomas Meehan; a cousin, Paul Meehan and several other cousins, nieces and nephews. A viewing will begin at 5:00P.M. Thursday, June 5, 2014, with a Vigil Service at 7:30P.M., in St. John's Catholic Church, 2400 Mayport Road, Atlantic Beach, Florida. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00A.M., Friday, June 6, 2014 in Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 10472 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida. Celebrating the Mass will be Bishop Felipe Estevez, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine. A reception will immediately follow the funeral mass in the Parish Hall. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery, St. Augustine, Florida, following the reception. Pallbearers will be from the Knights of Columbus. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of George H.
