ObituaryFloyd Vernon Sikes went home to meet the lord on Sunday, March 27, 2022. He was born on Sept. 24, 1930 near Hillard, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Esther Ann Rebecca Sikes and Mitchel F. Sikes. He was raised by his paternal grandmother Mary Mora Dyal Sikes. She had eleven children of her own and raised Floyd as if he were her own. He graduated in 1949. He played basketball and was named All-Conference. Floyd earned valedictorian honors and received a scholarship to Florida Southern College. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was employed by Southern Bell for thirty-two years. Floyd is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Helen Sikes, two children; Dr. Valerie Sikes-Nova and Joel Sikes. Two Grandchildren; Chris Sikes and Courtney Korman, two great-grandchildren; Layna Sikes and Jaxon LeBlanc. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11AM in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South Jacksonville, FL 32216 with Pastor Frank Ciresi. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral.
