Mrs. Frances Jeanette Gunter age 84 of Starke went to be with her savior Jesus on Tues, May 6, 2025, in Gainesville. She was born November 21, 1940, in Palatka to Curtis M. and Louise (Harper) Varnes. Frances earned her GED in November 1982 followed by her CNA certificate in July 1987. Many years ago, she worked at the sewing factory in Starke and Lake Butler. More recently she worked as a nursing assistant at the North Florida Reception Center in Lake Butler and later in home health care services. She also was employed as a librarian at New River West until her retirement in November 2007. Frances was a longtime and active member of Airpark Baptist Church, and enjoyed reading, watching game shows, working with fill in the word and crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years Tasco "Wayne" Gunter in 2023. Left behind to cherish her memory is her son John Stapleton of Starke, Florida, daughters Charlene Short of Starke and Mary Sikes of Lake Butler; three sisters Sue Varnes, Joyce Luther, and Linda Fowler all of Starke. She was lovingly called "Memaw" by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services for Frances will be held Monday, May 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel with Brother Arthur Masters officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe Cemetery.
