Frank Bergstol, 76, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on Wednesday, February 12, 2020. Born on August 29, 1943, in Kristiansand, Norway, he was the son of the late Salve Bergstol and Ruth (Torresen) Bergstol. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1953. As an immigrant and naturalized United States citizen, Frank was honored to serve in the United States Army from February 1964 until February 1966. He served in Vietnam in the First Infantry Division and was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, along with Sharpshooter and Expert Qualification Badges for M-14. Frank was also a proud member of the New York City Police Department from his appointment to the New York City Police Academy in October 1968 until he retired as a Sergeant in November 1989. During his NYPD service he received the Excellent Police Duty Award three times and was also a Rifle Expert. Frank is survived by his loving wife of over 53 years, Carol; son, Chris and wife Jessica Bergstol of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter, Annemarie and husband Chris Reilly of Chatham, NJ. He loved his five grandchildren, Henry, Alana, Matthew, Ella Grace and Anna Caroline. He was preceded in death by his sister Gloria Gjerustad in August of 2019. In retirement, Frank loved to travel, play golf and volunteer his time to various veterans' causes. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a Lifetime Member of the NYPD Retired Sergeants Association and the Hudson Valley 10-13 Society. Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a friend to everyone.He wasknown for his kindness and generosity and will be greatly missed by those who knew him. We welcome all friends and family to join us as we say our final farewell to Frank at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, where he will be laid to rest on Friday, February 28, 2020, at 11:00 AM. Military honors will be performed by the United States Army and Veterans of Foreign Wars.In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Michael J.
