Obituary

Frank James passed away on May 10, 2025. Even at 100 years old, his passing was unexpected. He maintained his dapper appearance and mental acuity to the end. His cremated remains, along with his beloved wife's (Louise) will be interred at the family cemetery in Chester County, PA on October 18, 2025.

Frank grew up on a dairy farm in a stone house built before the Revolutionary War. There he was tasked with huge responsibilities and developed a strong work ethic. Some of his last thoughts were of how they baled hay.

In addition to his farm duties, he also worked at the commercial rose fields, all the while, being an outstanding student and athlete. His high school sweetheart, Louise Mullin, remained the love of his life.

Although he was already enrolled at Drexell University, the bombing of Pearl Harbor impelled him to join the Navy. He was selected for the officer training program at Franklin & Marshall and Northwestern. After that he was deployed to the Pacific on the aircraft carrier, Shangri-La.

After the war, he received his business degree from Bowling Green in Ohio. He and Louise went to Philadelphia when he was hired to work for Food Fair grocery store chain. There he excelled and when Food Fair bought a chain of stores in Jacksonville, he was chosen to go there to make the enterprise a success. He accomplished that and spearheaded the development and expansion of what would become Pantry Pride. The company opened many modern grocery stores in mostly small towns in north Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. He even did a series of TV ads. In the meantime, he got his MBA at the very new UNF.

Upon retirement, Frank enjoyed helping others, specifically Habitat for Humanity and projects through Grace Episcopal Church where he and Louise were members. He was an excellent neighbor and held office in his neighborhood association for many years. He and Louise loved entertaining and were also loving and helpful parents and grandparents.

Frank is survived by daughters, Linda Holmes (Kennon) and Lauren Giosmas (George) and grandchildren Kaycee Holmes, Kelly Grob (David), and James Giosmas (Eliza).
