Manwell
Oct 24, 1933 — Oct 22, 2025
Franklin Parker Manwell, 91, passed into Glory and met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 22, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida
Frank was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on October 24, 1933, to Dorothy Abbe Manwell and Benjamin Parker Manwell. He graduated from Revere High School (Revere, Massachusetts) in 1952. While in school, he worked for the Wilson Line Excursion Company and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Society. In 1953, Frank joined the United States Navy and served four years in the Special Services Division.
During his first two years of service (1953-1955), Frank was stationed at Green Cove Springs, Florida, during which time he became a Christian and met his future wife, Eva. The next two years were spent aboard the Battleships USS New Jersey and USS Iowa, where he wrote columns for the ships' newspapers. After serving in the Navy, he worked for five years with the Great A&P Tea Company and five years with Volkswagen Southeastern Distributors. In 1969, he joined Southeast Toyota Distributors, where he worked for more than 29 years until he retired in December 1998.
Married in 1955, he is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eva Manwell, their son Mark Manwell, their daughter-in-law Sandy Manwell, and three grandchildren (Parker Manwell, Preston Manwell, Peri Manwell). He loved spending time with his family.
In 1960, Frank was ordained as a Deacon at Sans Souci Baptist Church. He also served as a Deacon for many years at Southside Estates Baptist Church and Hogan Baptist Church. At each of these churches, he served on Pulpit and Publicity Committees.
For about 50 years, Frank regularly wrote articles for "Steamboat Bill", the official Journal of the Steamship Historical Society of America. He loved all kinds (and sizes) of boats, cruises, circuses, roller coasters, trams, and mountain scenery.
The family will receive friends at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 25th at Hogan Baptist Church (8045 Hogan Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32216). Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM.
