Obituary

Pastor Fred Carlton Johns, Sr., age 84, of New River passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at his residence. Fred was born on November 20, 1937 in Bradford County to the late Miller Louis and Annie (Renfroe) Johns and was a lifelong area resident. He was a member of Bayless Highway Baptist Church and prior to retirement worked for the Florida Department of Transportation as a State Materials Concrete Engineer. In addition to his DOT work, he pastored many area churchs. Preceding him in death were his siblings, Eloise Johns Cowen, and M.L. Johns, Jr. Survivors are, his wife of 61 years, Sarah Jacqueline (Haltiwanger) "Jackie" Johns of New River, children, Carl Johns (Cheryl) of New River, Tammy Ross (Wesley) of Quitman, GA, Diane Wade of Citra, and his sister, Louise Brown (Randy) of Blue Ridge, GA. Also left are his grandchildren, Sarah, Josh, Aleesa, Victoria, Jenna, Creighton, Carly, Scott, Tracy and Heather along with 19 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Bayless Highway Baptist Church on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon with funeral services beginning at 12:00 pm.
