Obituary

Mr. Fred D. Smith age 96, of Starke passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Smith was born on March 4, 1918 in Glen White, West Virginia to the late Owen and Mary (Johnson) Smith and moved to Starke in 1952 from West Virginia. Prior to retirement he worked as a Coal Miner, and worked as a shipping clerk at NAS Jacksonville. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of Pentecostal Lighthouse Fellowship Church. He enjoyed metal detecting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Robert Smith, James Smith, William Smith and Donald Smith. Survivors are his wife of 70 years Oleda Beatrice (Jones) Smith of Starke, children: Barbara Ann Biron (Scott) of Greenville, SC, A. Wayne Smith (Tami) of Lake Butler, C. David Smith (Lanay) of Gainesville, siblings: George O. Smith of Texas, Helen S. Burnsides of Ft. McCoy. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ricky, Brandon, Christopher and Trista. The family will receive friends in the DEWITT C. JONES CHAPEL on Monday, April 14, 2014 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with funeral services beginning at 11 oclock. Interment will follow in Crosby Lake Cemetery with Reverend Terry Qualls and Reverend Wayne Spratlin officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, 325 Christian Street, Starke, FL 32091. Arrangements are by JONES-GALLAGHER FUNERAL HOME OF STARKE 904-964-6200. hide
