Frederick Adolph Conrad, 96, of Jacksonville, FL went to be with his Lord on August 11, 2021. His funeral service will be held in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South Jacksonville, FL 32216 on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10AM with Rev. Billy W. Jones officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Fred was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Thelma, who passed only six weeks prior. He is survived by a daughter Julie (Jerry) Green of Bartlett, TN and sons Scott Conrad of Middleburg, FL and Michael (Patricia) Conrad of Jacksonville, FL. Fred was 'Gpa' to eight grandchildren; Kyla Green (Bob Labout), Benjamin (Lina) Green, Amy Conrad, Raymond (Catherine) Conrad, Joel (Cailyn) Conrad, Jill Conrad, Adam (Emily) Conrad, Alan Conrad and seven great grandchildren; Owen Kelly, Olivia Kelly, Maddison Crank, Sawyer Conrad, Emalyn Conrad, Brantley Green and Alaina Green. Fred was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Rachel Green.Fred was born in Chicago, IL on February 10, 1925. He joined the Army during World War II serving in the 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of Battery C of the 377th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion seeing action in Operation Market-Garden and the Battle of the Bulge (Bastogne) receiving two Purple Hearts. After the war ended, he used the GI Bill to train to become a Master Bookbinder. He worked in some aspect of bookbinding or printing his entire life. He worked for Follet Publishing, Dixie Bindery, NCR, Florida Bindery, American Bank Stationery and finished his career at Clark American.Fred was a long-time member of Englewood Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Jacksonville. He served as a Sunday school leader, deacon, choir member and in any other capacity he was asked. Fred faithfully read three chapters of the Old Testament in the morning and three chapters of the New Testament in the evening. One of his greatest joys was rebinding a well worn bible knowing the owner loved the word of God too. He was a faithful disciple of Christ and was interested in everything that promoted the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.Fred would always tell people the loves of his life were his Lord, Thelma, his children and their families. He would always add "...and in that order".Though his family will miss his jokes, his sweet smile and his happy countenance, they are at peace knowing he is now and forever with the Lord..Viewing & VisitationGeorge H.
