Gary David Manning, Sr, 71, of Gainesville, Florida passed away on March 9, 2024. Gary was born in West Palm Beach, Florida on May 15, 1952 to Henry "Hank" and Phyllis Manning. Gary was married to Terrie for 38 years.He graduated from Forest Hill High School where he received a high school diploma. He joined the Army in 1974 and later a reserve until 1987. During his time in the Army, he worked with the bomb squad and military police. He also worked at the White House during President Carters term in office.Gary worked as a police Officer at Lake Worth Police Department and Gainesville Police Department. He worked as a patrol and training officer. He was then promoted to the criminalistics department. Before his retirement, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. After retiring from the Gainesville Police Department, Gary began a new career driving for Werner throughout the southeast region. He was on a dedicated fleet for Dollar General and later Family Dollar. He then worked for Family Dollar as a store manager and quickly was promoted as the District Manager.He enjoyed scuba diving, surfing as a teen, playing pool, photography (especially weddings) and motor cross with his Mazda RX7. He also led the Antioch Baptist Church Choir until his health declined.Gary is survived by his wife, Terrie Manning of Gainesville, Florida; mother, Phyllis Manning of Gainesville, Florida; sons, Gary Manning, Jr (Teresa) of Eufaula, Alabama, Richard Manning (Jessie) of Tallahassee, Florida, and Michael Manning (Caitlin) of Weirton, West Virginia; daughters, Edwina Gonzalez (Scott) of MacClenny, Florida, Jessica Solito (Jerame), and Victoria Kirby (Matthew) of Brooker, Florida; brother, Robert Manning of Gainesville, Florida; stepsister, Melodee Kerns of West Palm Beach, Florida; 2 grandsons, 8 granddaughters, and 2 great-granddaughters.He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Manning, Jr; uncle, Michael Fisher; grandparents, Ada and Jesse Fisher; stepmother, Virginia Manning; and stepbrother, David Kidd.A graveside funeral has been scheduled for Friday, March 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Millwood Cemetery, Reddick, Florida. A visitation will be held 30 minutes before the funeral.
