BESSENTGeorge Lindley Bessent Jr., 80, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida and was a longtime resident. He had attended Andrew Jackson High School and joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He was stationed in Miramar, California from 1957-1961 where he served aboard the USS Hornet, USS Oriskany, and the USS Ranger VA 146 and was Sailor of the year May 1960. In the early 70s he went to work for St. Regis Paper Mill having retired from its current owner Smurfit-Stone in 2006 after a successful career.He is the son of the late Edna Mae and George L. Bessent Sr; He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Vicki E. Bessent; 2 sons, Victor Bessent (Monica) and Anthony Bessent; 1 sister, Dolores Berke (Joe); 3 grandchildren, Matthew Bessent (Jan), Darrell Bessent and Summer Bessent; Nieces, Renea Radford (Mike), and Teresa Moore (Jerry); a Nephew, Craig Berke; 2 great-grandsons, Kaleb and Nathan Bessent.He enjoyed riding his Harley and was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed diving in the Florida Keys with his family. He was a great neighbor to everyone on George Tabor Lane and Bessent Road and was a problem solver in the neighborhood both large and small..
