George Alexander Forsyth, Jr., 90, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, passed away on September 4, 2014. He was born in Greensboro, NC on Nov. 23, 1923 to George and Belle Forsyth. After attending Guildford College and working in Greensboro NC, he married Hermine Gardner on October 16, 1949, and they lived in North Carolina before moving to Jacksonville, FL in 1953. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years and their oldest son, George (Sandy) Forsyth Ill. He is survived by two sons, Scott Forsyth of Atlantic Beach and Alan Forsyth of Atlanta, and by 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. George was an accomplished businessman, having been the top-ranked salesman for two national companies and later starting his own successful business. George and Hermine loved to travel and together they visited all 50 states, every Canadian province, and Europe several times. Visitation will be on Friday, September 12 from 6:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. A service celebrating George's life will be held on Saturday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception, at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church.
