George William Graudons

George William Graudons, age 93, of Melrose, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. He had been a resident of Plantation Oaks Assisted Living Facility in High Springs for more than three years. George was born on February 22, 1923, in Norway, New York, to German immigrants, Adelfina and August Graudons. He spent his youth on the family Dairy farm until entering into the U.S.M.C. on December 11, 1942. After WWII he worked on the family dairy farm, briefly, before moving to Starke in the early 1950s. George met his wife Verna, while teaching dance lessons part-time. They were married December 21, 1968, and enjoyed many happy years together entertaining at their home on Lake Santa Fe, that George built himself. He was a master woodworker and builder. He enjoyed helping his friends and family members by lending his time and skills to the building of their homes and woodworking projects. George retired, from the City of Starke, as Power Plant manager in 1984. After retirement, George and Verna traveled extensively throughout the United States and parts of Canada in their RV. Due to their declining health, George and Verna moved to Plantation Oaks in 2013. Verna preceded George in death in August 2015. The family is very appreciative of the loving care that was shown to George by the staff and residents of Plantation Oaks following the death of his beloved wife, Verna. His stepson, Johnnie and wife Kathy; three grandsons, Scott, Joel, and Jared Cellon; three great-grandchildren, Jolie, Joseph, and Jacy Cellon survive him. His sister, Dot Voorhees and many nieces and nephews also survive him. A life celebration service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Fresh Start Fellowship, 7191 State Road 21, Keystone Heights with Pastor Steve Conner officiating.
