George Evelyn Wheeler

Mrs. George Evelyn Wheeler, age 91, of Keystone Heights passed away at her home, Tuesday, January 19, 2016. She was born in Industry, Illinois on July 7, 1924 to the late Ira and Vera (Stoneking) Curtis and moved to Keystone Heights in 1960 from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Wheeler was the bookkeeper and business owner for Wheeler Appliances in Keystone Heights and had formerly attended Faith Presbyterian Church in Melrose. She was a founding member of the American Legion Post #202 in Keystone Heights where she was also a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed playing BINGO. Mrs. Wheeler had received many awards for her countless hours of volunteering at the V.A. and the American Legion. Her husband of 58 years, Arthur "Art" Wheeler had preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children, Rick Wheeler (Shirneice) of Keystone Heights, Judy Vaupel (Marion) of Cedar Rapids Iowa, and Christeena Wilson of Jacksonville. Also left behind are six grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, January 22, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services for Mrs. Wheeler will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016 in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel.
