Your childhood is a village.You will never cross its boundariesno matter how far you go.Adonis, tr.Khaled Mattawa(Courtesy, Yale University Press)George Davison Winius, age 89, of Gainesville passed away Sunday, June 10th at UF Health Shands Hospital of Gainesville, Florida.He was born October 6, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Enno deWitt Winius and Dorothy Alice Davison. After marrying Margaretha Maria (Margriet) Hofman on August 4, 1962, in Wassenaar, the Netherlands, they lived in Gainesville where he taught Iberian history for thirty-five years at the University of Florida, at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands, and at Brown University.He is survived by their 3 children; Johannes Winius (Jaap), Elisabeth Winius (Liesbeth), Petrus Winius (Pieter); and 2 grandchildren Thomas and Louisa.Flowers and contributions to Holy Faith Catholic Church of Gainesville are welcome.Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 29, 2018, at 9:30AM at Holy Faith Catholic Church of Gainesville, Florida. A reception will be immediately following services at Holy Faith Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Gainesville, Florida.
