George Howard Wodey

Mr. George H. Wodey 75 of Melrose passed away at his home Wednesday, August 11, 2021, following an extended illness. He was born February 3, 1946, in Winthrop, Massachusetts to George and Mary (Schroeder) Wodey. Mr. Wodey attended high school in Melrose until the 10th grade and then graduated in 1964 from Gainesville High. In 1966 he joined the United States Air Force for the next 3 years serving one year in Thule, Greenland. Mr. Wodey was employed with Clay Electric Co-Op Inc. for 45 years with his career beginning as an apprentice lineman and working his way up to Operation Superintendent. He was a faithful and active member of Freedom Baptist Church. George loved the Lord, his wife, son, and church family with all his heart; he also enjoyed listening to gospel music and the Inspirations Quartet. His mules were also a big part of his life; he loved taking care of and working with them as much as he could. Mr. Wodey is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 56 years Elsie (France) Wodey of Melrose and their son Truman Wodey of Jacksonville. Also left behind is his sister Janis Mack (Wayne) of Gainesville in addition to a host of extended family members and friends that will miss him dearly. The visitation for Mr. Wodey will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2021, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Freedom Baptist Church in Keystone Heights, FL. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jason Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Eliam Cemetery in Melrose, FL. The family is requesting casual attire.
