Gerald A. "Red" McCarthy passed away on May 29, 2023. He was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts on May 13, 1938. He moved to Miami, Florida as a child and graduated from Coral Gables High School. After 2 years in the Coast Guard Reserves, he married the love of his life, Patricia A. (Kealey) McCarthy. They would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on June 4th. They had four children, John M. McCarthy (Veronica), Jeanne M. Dockeney (Don), Julie Price-Trickey, and Janet M. Schulze (Chad); 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.Red was all about providing for his family. There was always a summer vacation and they never wanted for anything. Red was a stickler about keeping their 5 acres, mowed, clear of sticks and kept his vehicles in pristine condition. He was also an avid poker player. He and Pat traveled to Biloxi or Orange Park on several occasions to play Texas Hold'em.Red retired from AT&T after 30 years of service and started his own telephone installation and repair company, Red's Old-Fashioned Telephone Service. Red prided himself on customer service.Services will be at Forest Meadows Cemetery at 4100 NW 39th Avenue in Gainesville, Florida on Friday, June 2nd. Visitation will begin at 1pm, followed by a service. Entombment immediately following. After, please join the family at the Creek's Edge Club House, 1810 NW 23rd Blvd for a Celebration of Life and some of Red's favorite foods. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
