Gerald (Gerry) Olmsted age 72, of Melrose, FL passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Judy, after a lengthy illness on Monday, March 21, 2016. Gerry was born in New York, NY on June 5, 1943 to David A. and Elizabeth S. Olmsted. As a child, Gerry loved being an active member of the Boy Scouts of America, and later served as a Scout Master. In 1961, he graduated from Stamford High School (CT) and went on to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps. Gerry attended University of Connecticut in 1968 and the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1971. His proudest accomplishment was serving as Chief of Police in the towns of East Windsor, CT (1973-1976), Media, PA (1982-1985) and New Milford, CT (1985-1987). In addition, he also worked as a police officer in Coventry, CT, an attorney in CT and ME, a legal advisor to the UConn PD and Hartford PD, owner/operator of Bear Mountain Village Camping and Cottage Resort, Deputy Court Administrator in Collier County Florida, and Broker/Manager of Century 21 Lakeside, Melrose, FL. In his free time, Gerry loved to travel, fish, and spend time on his boat.Gerry was preceded in death by his two younger brothers Richard Olmsted and David "Junior" Olmsted.He is survived by his wife, Judy, of 53 years and their two sons: Chris Olmsted (wife Caren) of Basking Ridge, NJ, and their two boys Benjamin and Matthew; and Scott Olmsted (wife Aimee) of Melrose, FL, and their two children, Eric and Samantha. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Bill Martin, his niece Jessica and nephew Corey, his sister-in-law Margaret Olmsted, niece Kim Olmsted Jennings, and sister-in-law Sue Olmsted.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Salvation Army in Gerrys name.Memories can be shared at the website of the Jones-Gallagher funeral home. www.jonesgallagherfh.com
