Gerard Joseph
Fernandez
Dec 8, 1938 — Jan 23, 2026
It is with profound sadness and deep reverence that we announce the passing of Gerard Joseph Fernandez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, dedicated firefighter, coach, and friend. Jerry passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at the age of 87. He was born on December 8, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, and lived a life defined by unwavering service, quiet faith, and genuine compassion for others.
Known fondly as "Jerry" to those who loved him, Gerard devoted his life to helping others. As a civil service firefighter, he exemplified courage, selflessness, and dedication, serving his community with honor and distinction. His legacy is one of bravery and steadfast commitment, leaving a lasting impact on all whose lives he touched.
Jerry was also a passionate baseball player and coach, generously sharing his love of the game through years of Little League involvement. Through coaching, he mentored and inspired countless young boys, teaching them not only baseball skills, but also discipline, teamwork, and character. A man of deep faith, Jerry served faithfully within the Presbyterian Church and was most recently a cherished member of Faith Presbyterian Church, where his service was often quiet, humble, and steadfast.
Jerry was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice Fernandez. Jerry dearly loved and is also survived by his son, Jason Fernandez (Tosha); and his cherished grandchildren Ciarrah, Shoshona, Jaden, and Seth. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Vincent Gerard Fernandez, whom he loved deeply.
Jerry is survived by Alice's children, whom he profoundly loved as his own for more than fifty years: Debora Breese (Ed) and grandsons Jerry and Tyler Breese; Frank Loose (Angela Im) and grandsons Henry and Simon Loose; William "Bill" Loose (Lee Ann Kimes) and grandchildren Sara Fairbanks-Ukropen (Alex) and Heron Fairbanks, and great-grandson Tim Ukropen; Eric Loose (Stephanie Barnett) and grandchildren Noah Barnett and Emily Jones, and great-grandchildren Rome Wilson, Zayne Barnett, Ariya Barnett, Laylani Genoval, and Angel Genoval III; and Edward "Boris" Loose and granddaughter Clara Loose.
All of them carry forward Jerry's values, humor, and the countless memories he created with them. His quiet wisdom, steadfast service, and famously silly jokes will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Jerry's life on February 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Faith Presbyterian Church, located at 2738 State Road 21, Melrose, Florida 32666. Together, we will honor a remarkable man and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
