Mr. Gilbert Marvin Brown known to most as "Marvin", 85 of Starke, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, May 23, 2025.Marvin was born in Starke, Florida to the late Gib & Margaret Brown of Starke, FL and was a resident of Starke, FL for all of his life. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Judith McRae "Judy" Brown; He is survived by his children: Jason M. Brown & wife, Jami W. Brown of Chiefland, FL; Jennifer L. Brown-Jackson & husband, Scott R. Jackson of Gainesville, FL; Jody L. Brown & wife, Amy T. Brown of Gainesville, FL; Grandchildren: Madison L. Jackson and Savannah R. Jackson of Gainesville, FL; James Edward Ricketson of Chiefland, FL; Sibling: William H. "Bill" Brown & wife, Diane Brown of Tallahassee, FL and a host of nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends. He was also preceded in death by younger brother, James Edward "Ed" Brown of Jacksonville, FL. Marvin attended St. Marks Episcopal Church of Starke, FL and was a member of various organizations including the Morocco Shriners of Jacksonville, FL and Starke Shrine Club where he served as past Treasurer, American Legion of Starke, FL and Rotary Club of Starke, FL. He was an Army Veteran serving as a Field Artillery Specialist at Fort Sill, OK and Fort Knox, KY during the pre-Vietnam era.Marvin pursued his education at Murray State University in Murray, KY, obtaining degrees in History and Business Administration. He maintained long careers in both banking as Vice President of Florida National Bank in Starke, FL and corrections as a classification officer for the Florida Department of Corrections in Lake Butler, FL. Additionally, he taught economics, accounting and history at the Vocational Technical Center of Bradford-Union County in Starke, FL.To all who knew him, Marvin was humble, kind, loving, optimistic, intelligent, virtuous and cool under pressure. He was an excellent role model, loyal, and the epitome of a gentleman. He was voted "Most To Be Admired" of his 1957 Bradford High School Class and demonstrated this moniker in all aspects throughout his life. He was family and community-service oriented, had a distinct love for all people and enjoyed playing golf, eating a delicious meal, watching sports, and spending time with loved ones. He was an engaging storyteller, was enamored with his wife Judy and felt gratified in raising his triplets.
