Tillis, 96, of Keystone Heights, FL died Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Miss Tillis was born on December 24, 1912 in Melrose to the late Ralph and Lulu (Price) Tillis. Miss Tillis had been a lifelong resident of the Melrose and Keystone Heights area. Before retiring as Postmaster one July 1, 1972, Gladys started as a part time clerk in 1943 at the Keystone Heights Post Office and then was appointed Postmaster by President John Kennedy in 1962. The first Girl Scout Troop in Keystone Heights was organized by Gladys in 1950, and she also organized the senior citizen bowling league in Gainesville (Palm Lanes) in 1979 and Starke in 1987. Both leagues elected her president for several years. In 1988, she was appointed chairman of Transportation for the Keystone Heights Senior Citizens Service. Gladyss memberships include: Fresh Start Fellowship Church in Keystone Heights, Red Hats Society, the National League of Postmasters, N.A.P.U.S., and the association of retired Federal Employees. Funeral services Miss Tillis will be held on Tuesday, May 5th at 10:00 a.m. in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. John Arnette officiating. Viewing will be prior to the service and burial will follow at Eliam Cemetery in Melrose. In lieu of flowers, Gladys asked that contributions be made to the Fresh Start Fellowship Church, P.O.
