Gloria Joyce James, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, in Palatka. She was born on June 23, 1939, to Warren Rizzi and Pearl (White) Rizzi.
Gloria was a devoted wife to Curtis James, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. Curtis preceded her in death, and together they built a life filled with love, family, service, and countless memories.
Gloria took great pride in being a mom and a military wife. She cherished her family and found great joy in caring for others and helping whenever she could. She had a creative spirit and enjoyed crafts.
A lifelong lover of sports, Gloria especially enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs. She also had a special love for her dog, Waveland Attison Sheffield a name inspired by the beloved streets surrounding Wrigley Field.
Gloria will be remembered for her generous heart, her devotion to her family, her love of sports and crafts, and the many ways she quietly helped those around her. Her warmth and caring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (David) Johnsen, her grandson, Daelen Johnsen, and her great grandson, Lawson Thomas Johnsen.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gloria's memory to Haven Hospice in Palatka.
