Gregory Michael Straka of Dade City, FL passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on June 5, 2020 in Clemson, SC. He was born on November 23, 1946 in Vienna, VA to Harold and Lois Straka. He grew up in Decatur, GA, graduating from Gordon High School in 1964. He was very athletic and starred on the baseball and basketball teams in high school and also participated in several clubs including the Beta Club, the Key Club, and the Varsity Club. Greg began college at the University of Georgia. He married Charlotte Hogan in 1966 and had two wonderful children, Chris and Stacy. He went on to graduate from Georgia State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in 1967. After graduation, he worked for Georgia Farm Bureau and then joined Georgia Power Company where he worked as a litigation specialist for 38 years. Greg moved to Lilburn, GA, where he lived when he met his beloved wife Sheri. They married on Dec. 24, 2003. After retiring in 2011, they moved to Dade City, FL, where they enjoyed living in a beautiful golf community and traveling worldwide on many cruises and golf vacations. He shared his passion for golf with his children and grandchildren, giving lessons and tips whenever he could. He was also a huge fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs. Greg had an appreciation for putting his best foot forward in everything he did, whether it was school, sports, or work, and for teaching his children and grandchildren to be the best version of themselves that they could be. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Sheri; daughter Stacy; grandchildren Lauren, Tyler, and Addison; and stepson Sean. He is preceded in death by his beloved son Chris, brother Roger (Pat), and parents Harold and Lois. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Chapel in the Meadows, Forest Meadows Central Cemetery, 4100 NW 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32606. Visitation will be at 2:00 pm, followed by services at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Greg's honor.
